CURRICULUM VITAE

NAME

Yan JIN, DDS., Ph.D.

Born in April of 1963, the chair professor and director of Department of Oral Histology and Pathology of the School of Stomatology, and the director of the Center of Tissue Engineering, the Fourth Military Medical University. He was invited to be the visiting professor of Osaka Dental University and the honorary Professor of University of Hong Kong.

EDUCATION BACKGROUND
Graduated from the School of Stomatology, the Fourth Military Medical University in 1985 and awarded the Ph.D. degree in 1991.

ACADEMIC TITLES
(1)  Council member of Chinese Stomatology Association (CSA).
(2)  Vice chairman of Oral Pathology Committee, Chinese Stomatology Association (CSA)
(3)  Standing committee member of Chinese Tissue Engineering Association
(4)  Member of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society
(5)  Member of International Association of Dental Research

RESEARCH FIELDS

(1) Studied on gene modulation and signal transduction during the development and regeneration of oral maxillofacial tissues, particularly tooth development and regeneration. Dr. JIN continued in-depth research on mesenchymal stem cells related to tooth development and regeneration. His team isolated and identified the key cells in the early stage of oral and maxillo-facial development —ectomesenchymal stem cells (EMSCs) for the first time. They found that a novel gene Mcpr1 could regulate the proliferation and apoptosis of mesenchymal cells. They observed that after the formation of tooth germ, mesenchymal cells of different stages could dominate tooth development and regeneration of corresponding stages. They also proved that the inductive condition of odontogenic differentiation of adult stem cells could be established by the principle of E-M interaction.
(2) Researched on the multipotent stem cells about target inductive differentiation, trans-differentiation and application in tissue regeneration. Focused on the research and applications of biomaterials for many years and made great contributions in this field. His research group has successfully produced tissue engineering skin, peripheral nerve, bone, cartilage and periodon tal tissues. In charge of the national “863 plan” project titled “Tissue and Organ Engineering Research Project”.

PUBLICATIONS
These achievements have been described in high quality research articles published in well-known international journals such as J Biol Chem, Biol Cell, Tiss Eng and so on. He is the author of over 400 publications and 12 patents. The total number of published articles written in English has reached 70, and the accumulative impact factor is above 120. He is the editor of 12 books
